Final Portfolio Assessment "Report Card" Post - Active Learning 2015

PARTICIPATION: 22.5/25

Attendance: 4.5/5

  • I am always willing to come to class and I have NEVER had any unexcused absences. The only times where I wasn't able to be part of the class is from injuries or health issues I had to go through in the year.
Gym Strip: 4/5
  • There is probably only one or two times where there was some miscommunication on what day there was class and I didn't have proper gym strip. Otherwise I am always dressed appropriately for the activities.
Physical Presence/ Intensity During Games: 5/5
  • This is one of the best years I had in terms of Intensity and Participation levels. This year I've learned to enjoy every activity and put my all into them because it not only helps myself but for other around me that are benefited from my engagement.
Skill Level: 4/5
  • There are many sports and activities where I am weak at but there are some where I feel like I demonstrate skillful techniques. I excel at games like Volleyball and Badminton because I feel like I have very good hand-eye coordination.
Motivation on Choice Days: 5/5
  • The best way to get motivated is to do something that interests you and choice days are perfect for this. Usually some of my favourite activities  like Badminton and Volleyball are played these days and this gives me a chance to have some friendly competition with friends
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: 19/25

Leadership: 3/5
  • I haven't prove too much about certain leadership traits in this class. In terms of organizing and leading the class, I haven't demonstrated that. But where I do think I have some leadership qualities is how positive and uplifting I can be to the people around me. Being able to encourage, accept, and celebrate everyone is something I feel is an important part of being a leader.
Initiative: 5/5
  • If there is help needed I will be there right away. Whenever we are setting up or packing up, I am always around asking for anyway I can help.
Positive Energy and Social Dynamic: 5/5
  • One of my proudest traits is having this optimistic and positive personality in almost any situation. I am always encouraging people to have fun and do the very best they can. This also helps me stay focused and on track and helps me learn to enjoy every opportunity I get to be with others.
  • I also care very much about other people and their general well being. I get concerned about their health and emotions if they show any signs of distress. Any chance I get I want them to feel comfortable and safe and happy.
Honesty in Competition and Fitness: 4/5
  • There may be some times where I had to modify or skip some activities just to catch my breath and pull myself together. Even though this may not be considered as something that can be 100% dishonest, not everyone can say they were able to be successful in everything they do.
  • In competition, THERE HAS TO BE HONESTY. Nothing bothers my more than cheating and lying for the sake of winning or being the best. Any time I see any foul play or any play that may be uncertain, I speak out and I give my best opinion and judgement.
Community and Volunteer Connections: 2/5
  • Some thing I haven't put some time into doing is giving back and helping in my community. I find that I spend a lot of time for myself and get myself sorted before I can be out there to help other. I am coming to the point where I am happy and learning about where I am in life and I feel like learning from volunteer and community work could be extremely beneficial to me.

HEALTHY LIVING: 17/25

Fitness Scores: 1/5
  • My average scores would be a 4 to a 4.7 which is considered a very poor for someone my age and gender.
Noteworthy Changes in Fitness: 5/5
  • I can point out the many MANY changes I have been through in my Fitness life but the most important is the fact that I have drastically improved and this year has been one of the best years of PE I've ever had. The largest obstacle I had to face is the insecurity and lack of motivation that came from it. I've learned to be more comfortable with others around me which allows me to focus on my fitness intensity level. There are many things that are difficult for me but I try to not be affected emotionally and keep moving forward.
Barriers and Limitations: 4/5
  • Occasionally I end up feeling down like how I would used to always feel in other PE classes but it wasn't my main limitation
  • Something I would get very frustrated with is with my Health and how easily my body can feel sick. My asthma would sometimes stop me from doing activities I love doing and makes me slow down and difficult for me to participate. I've gotten a sick a few times during class where I've had to leave. Also the varicose vein in both my legs can make it difficult to run long distances and can get painful at times.
Dietary Choices and Extra-Curricular Activities: 3/5
  • I have no Extra-Curricular Activities I have made time for. I would occasionally walk or bike.
  • I make very healthy dietary choices and I understand what my body needs and doesn't need.
Injury Prevention and Future Plans for Overall Health Choices: 4/5
  • The injuries I mostly get are from strained muscles in my legs. Whenever my leg muscles suddenly strain itself from physical activity, I must stretch out my legs and do certain stretches to release the tension. It's extremely painful and scary for but it's important to keep calm and relax my muscles. To prevent my legs from straining during PE, I wear certain socks prescribed from my doctor on days where I know there is going to be a lot of running or a very long distance of walking or running.
  • This year I was planning to go the gym but the thought slowly slipped out of my head. Now I am determined to be going out to the gym right before the next school year and making it a habit.

DIGITAL PORTFOLIO AND REFLECTIVE SKILLS: 20/25

Total Number of Blog Posts: 3/5
  • 27
Quality of Evidence to Show Learning: 3/5
  • My Blog shows a few pictures, YouTube videos of workouts, workout videos, and long paragraph where I reflect and explain my learning.
Quality of Summaries/Explanation Evidence: 4/5
  • Not many pictures were present but I thoroughly explain how I thought and how I felt during the PE year. Many of them truly express my physical levels and how I feel about them.
Usefulness of Comments on Peer's Blogs: 5/5
  • I love looking at the amazing work my peers put on their Blogs and congratulating them for such great efforts. I put a lot of thought into many comments making sure it's personalized, shows how much I care and interested in the activities they do, and make them feel good about their work.
Ability to Synthesize Entries Into This Post: 5/5
  • I feel as though a lot of thought and honesty went into this final post and I was able to really show who I am, what I do, and what I've learned.

Overall, my efforts in trying to show a lot of evidence for Healthy Living weren't outstanding, my efforts in physical activities and trying to build a close community with my classmates helped make this year outstanding to me.

FINAL MARK: 79%

Midterm Reflection

tis year has been a really good experience fro me. As someone who would used to wake up and not want to go to school because they had gym that day, I've slowly learned to enjoy the other aspects to gym. The reason I am able to be willing to participate in gym is because of the community around me and the strong relationships I've built in this class. I feel like that I have fun and put more effort more often than I have ever did in gym. I especially love classes when we are only playing within our own class because I feel more encouraged to participate with the people I know so well. The only days where I do  not want to participate is when my physical condition isn't too well. And it bugs me because on those days the class happens to be playing some of my favourite activities :'(. But I try my very best to keep a positive attitude when going around and talking to all my classmates. (I can't even edit on this computer so excuse that paragraph)

I feel like my efforts on fitness days hasn't improved that much since the beginning of the year. I mean I'm doing well but I'm not very happy about where I'm at from my goal I made in the beginning of the year. So now I am trying to  reach my goal of trying to to mentally focus when I'm in fitness.

I believe leadership is something everybody has but is something hard to show. The whole journey on being a leader is to find a way to be able to freely express oneself so they are able to lead others comfortably. I wish I could say I was one of the best leaders in class but truthfully I'm not. Ever since I was a kid I aspired to be an amazing leader. Even now I try think of ways to be a leader but I'm still not able to show it very well. So I hope to learn from my peers in this class and maybe I can say I'm one of the best leaders. Good thing I'm really good friends with these amazing leaders (ehem simran and nimrit and palvi ACHOO) cough

Overall I would give myself an 80%

Quick little pic

I just had to have this on my blog! We are ALWAYS having fun in this class I swear. Capture Flag in the snow wasn't as bad as I thought. I mean I got more flags than I've gotten in other games wow. Also the short socials lecture was insanely fun. usA USA USAAAAAAA

MANDARIN ORANGES

Tis the season where I get terribly ill BUT i have been really careful and I feel like it's because I've been eating alot of onion soup AND MANDARIN ORANGES tis the season indeed

oh bless the mighty oranges

Muscle of the Day- Bicep Femoral

So I found out that the Bicep Femoris is part of back thigh WHICH is where most of my physical pain comes from so I need to nag myself into doing these kind of exercises for the sake of my aching legs.
5 workouts:

SQUATS my favourite exercise in the history of ever. Gotta make sure your butt is out and you have good posture and slowly bend your knees. The knees should be at 90 degree angle. Just hold for 3 seconds and relax.

SQUATS WITH BARBELLS going little bit more with the squats you carry a barbell while you squat.

I found a little video on youtube I didn't try but I found interesting.
So the head of the bicep femoris is around the back of the knee and goes about 3 inches up the thigh.
The lady had a roll that she put under her knee and she lifted her hips up so she is balancing onto the roll. Then at a speed around 1 inch per second she rolled it up to her thigh until she reached a sensitive point and held it for 20 seconds

I mostly found stretches afterwards

SIT AND REACH

There is a stretch that dancers do where they prop their leg up on a barre and stretch and the more higher up it is the better. But you can use any kind of elevated object and stretch and hold the position for a good 20-30 seconds

Reflecting by looking at other people's blogs

OK first of all, I am so happy at how well our class is doing their blogs! I have to learn from the 9th graders since I didn't do anywhere near as good as they do. I CAN GO ON AND ON ABOOUT HOW RAD YOU GUYS ARE but let me think for a sec. Right of the bat, PICTURES. I barely have any. It was nice to see pictures and links on other people's blog and to be like oh yeah i remember that time that was cool. I will try harder into sweet talking my friends into using their phones ;) also i found that i only talk about how fun the activity was. YES it is super important to reflect on the mood and the atmosphere the class brings bUT JANELLE come on it's still gym class tell us about the physical activity! Geez i want to work really hard so I can get on other people's blog level cause alot are THROUGH THE ROOOOF
